About Vein Solutions South Africa

Dedicated to the treatment of venous disease across South Africa.

Dedicated To The Treatment Of Venous Disease

At Vein Solutions South Africa, your health is our priority. We are a medical practice specialising in the treatment of varicose veins, venous ulcers, and spider veins.

To determine whether a venous problem exists, a comprehensive evaluation is performed through an in-depth medical history and physical examination by an experienced Specialist Surgeon. In addition, an extensive ultrasound study is performed by a registered sonographer to help determine the diagnosis.

The findings are discussed to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for the condition identified. Vein Solutions South Africa offers a range of vein treatment modalities, with procedures performed daily in a patient-friendly environment, usually in less than an hour.

Meet Dr Gideon van Wyk

Dr Gideon van Wyk

BSc (University of Johannesburg), MBChB (University of Pretoria), MMed (Surgery) (Stellenbosch University)

Dr Gideon van Wyk is a Specialist Surgeon with more than 25 years of surgical experience and over 16 years dedicated to the treatment of venous disease. His career includes 20 years in full-time private practice and seven years as a consultant in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pretoria.

His practice focuses on minimally invasive vein treatments, including Endovenous Laser Ablation, Radio Frequency Ablation, and Sclerotherapy. Drawing on experience across a broad range of vein treatment modalities, he has a particular focus on the management of venous ulcerations and chronic venous disease.

Dr Van Wyk's professional development was influenced by Dr Ron Busch, a board-certified cardiovascular surgeon considered a founding pioneer in Phlebology, and Dr Ariel Soffer of the Soffer Health Institute. Their mentorship helped shape his approach to venous disease management and minimally invasive treatment.

His treatment philosophy prioritises minimally invasive procedures wherever appropriate, focusing on addressing the underlying cause of venous disease through the least invasive treatment suitable for the individual patient.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Van Wyk expanded his practice to include mobile clinics, helping reduce travel requirements for patients while making specialist vein care available across a wider geographical area. Today, his clinic network spans Pretoria, Johannesburg, Middelburg, Secunda, Polokwane, White River, Krugersdorp, Roodepoort, Kimberley, Sandton, Upington, Kathu, Kuruman, and Bloemfontein.

His approach to vein treatment has attracted patients from South Africa and abroad, including the United States, Australia, England, Indonesia, and various African countries seeking specialised vein care.
